North Senegal and Dakar – 2 day trip

Day 1:

We shall depart the hotel and drive to Banjul the capital city of The Gambia, where we will join the ferry to Barra. The crossing with the ferry is an experience in it self with local people travelling with their goats and merchandise. On the other side we drive towards Amdallai / Karang passing local villages on the way before we reach to The Gambian / Senegalese border. Here they have a passport control and it´s also possible to buy drinks and snacks.

After we will continue driving to Fathala Nature Park. The nature reserve is home to many different species of wild animals such as rhino, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, eland and warthogs. There is also a optional lion walk, where you have the chance to walk, side by side ,with wild lions – an unparalleled experience with lots of photo opportunities. After enjoying lunch we proceed to Toubakuta where we check in to the lodge and have relax. In the evening we embark on a scenic boat trip to spot different species of colorful birds, mangroves, and you will get to see the beautiful sunset. Back at Toubakuta we have dinner and rest.

 

Day 2:

After breakfast we start the 5 hour drive to Dakar. On the way we stop for lunch before we continue to Dakar where we check in at our hotel. After some rest we visit the tallest statue in the whole Africa. The African Renaissance Monument is a breathtaking monument and a symbol of African pride and rebirth.  It is 52 meters high which makes it the tallest statue in Africa and climbing up you will have one of the most stunning views over Dakar and the coast.

 

Day 3: 

take the ferry to Gorée Island. The island is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the island serves as a memorial to the Atlantic slave trade. While today this small island is peaceful community. It’s known for its pastel-colored houses ,we will walk through it peaceful streets, surrounded by colorful houses, art galleries, and the calm ocean breeze.

We will continue into the vibrant heart of Dakar, where modern life meets rich African traditions. Visit the lively outdoor markets, nice beaches, colorful, nighbourhoods, the city is a major hub for West African fashion, music, art, cinema, museums, and Atlantic coastline.

We will drive out of Dakar and drive towards The Gambia.

 South Senegal – Kafountine

We shall depart from the hotel drive to Giboroh then to Seleti in South Senegal. These are the two border between The Gambia and South Senegal for passport control. After we will proceed to Kafountine, we will join the boat trip to island village where we will visit the gigantic baobab tree. We will walk around the village and see how people are living. This is a exceptional experience to witness ancient customs that continue to shape everyday life. Kafountine — a charming coastal destination in south Senegal’s Casamance region that’s perfect if you love nature. Local culture, beaches, and a laid-back vibe, is a coastal fishing village and small town on the Atlantic Ocean in Lower Casamance. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, stunning natural surroundings, and authentic Senegalese daily life. It’s much less developed than classic beach resort areas, which makes it ideal for travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences. Long, peaceful beaches stretch along the coast — perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and sunset walks. The coast is lined with filao (casuarina) trees and traditional fishing pirogues, creating great photo opportunities. Nearby mangrove forests and bolongs. You can join drumming and dance performances, participate in workshops or enjoy the rhythms of local music.

We will have our lunch. After drive to The Gambia .

Good to know

To cross the border you will need to bring your passport and your vaccination card which shows that you have the yellow fever vaccination. Some countries may need a visa to cross the border so please make sure to check this with your countries embassy in the Gambia or Senegal.
